Jack Black is a huge fan of video games, but which ones does he really get lost in? In an interview, the A Minecraft Movie star talked about how much he loved Rockstar Games' hit 2018 title, Red Dead Redemption 2. During the pandemic, he spent hundreds of hours playing it. "It was during the pandemic. I played Red Dead Redemption 2, and I basically lived in that world," Black told ComicBook. "It wasn’t just a game—it felt like a whole way of life. I logged 400 hours, and I have no regrets. It was so much fun. The game is stunning; the world they built is just incredible." A Minecraft Movie is just the latest video game adaptation Black has been a part of. He previously voiced Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is well known in gaming for playing Eddie Riggs in Brütal Legend.
During the interview, Black sat alongside his A Minecraft Movie co-star Jason Momoa, who admitted he had never even heard of Red Dead Redemption 2. Black was stunned by this.
"Dude, you've never heard of Rockstar Games? These guys are true artists. You have to play it; it'll change your life. If you're going to play just one game, that's the one," he told Momoa. When asked about his own gaming preferences, Momoa said he usually avoids video games because he has an "addictive personality." However, he did admit to loving Capcom's Street Fighter series, naming Ryu and Blanka as his favorite characters.
A Minecraft Movie is set to hit theaters on April 4. The project has been in development for over a decade, with various directors like Rob McElhenney and Shawn Levy attached at different points before finally landing in the hands of Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess. The film also stars Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen.
