In Red Dead Redemption 2, there's a unique travel mechanic that lets you traverse the map effortlessly, and it's not fast travel.
While fast travel is available in the game, it's hard to understand why you'd choose it. Using it would make you miss out on the stunning world that Rockstar Games meticulously crafted.
Seriously, just take a moment to admire the scenery! Even after five years, the game’s visuals still feel ahead of their time.
But I digress. Typically, players get around either on horseback or, if they're feeling a bit wild, they might even run from place to place. But there’s a third option: hitchhiking.
This came up in a Reddit thread by user Omoplata-69, who asked others about their biggest “Wait… You Can Do That?” moments in Red Dead Redemption 2. Someone shared that you can actually ask people riding in wagons, coaches, or buggies for a lift.
As you can imagine, this revelation surprised a lot of players. One person commented, “WHAT?!? I’ve done three playthroughs and never noticed this. I might load up an old save just to check it out. Is it part of the greeting mechanic?”
Another person chimed in, “I only found out about this a month ago. Makes me wonder what else I’ve missed.”
Someone even shared some historical context, explaining that being stranded in the wilderness without a horse could often result in death, which is why people would give rides. They also mentioned that horse thieves were heavily punished, and hitchhiking only disappeared about 80 years ago.
It's a neat feature and yet another example of the incredible attention to detail Rockstar put into Red Dead Redemption 2. What's great is that the game never explicitly tells you about it—you just have to discover it on your own.
